1. Who will benefit from the Associative
QDIM Extension?
If you use AutoCAD® software¡¦s Quick Dimension (QDIM) feature to dimension your drawings, you will find this extension useful. Dimensions created with QDIM are now associative, so any change in geometry will immediately update the corresponding dimensions. As a result, your productivity will improve as editing operations are reduced.
2. Does this extension work with AutoCAD-based
industry-specific products?
Yes. The Associative QDIM Extension runs on the following AutoCAD® 2002¡Vbased products:
3. Does this extension work with AutoCAD
LT?
No. The Associative QDIM Extension does not work with AutoCAD LT® software.
4. Does this extension require a service
pack?
No. This extension does not require any special service pack.
5. What does the Associative QDIM Extension
do?
The Associative QDIM Extension makes dimensions created by QDIM associative with the underlying geometry. The QDIM command enables you to quickly create a series of dimensions, by dimensioning multiple objects at one time. The command is particularly useful for creating a series of baseline or continued dimensions, or for dimensioning a series of circles and arcs. These dimensions will automatically adjust their locations, orientations, and measurement values when the geometric objects associated with them are modified.
6. How does this extension differ from
the associative dimensioning in AutoCAD 2002?
The associative dimensioning functionality introduced with AutoCAD 2002 was applicable to AutoCAD software¡¦s interactive dimensioning features. Commands such as Linear Dimension (DIMLINEAR), Radius Dimension (DIMRADIUS), and others require you to pick what geometry the dimensions are applied to; in these cases, dimensions are associative. AutoCAD software¡¦s QDIM tool allows you to pick multiple entities and have AutoCAD automatically generate the dimensions. In AutoCAD 2002, these dimensions were not associative. With the Associative QDIM Extension, these dimensions are now associative.
7. Does this extension replace my old QDIM
command?
The Associative QDIM Extension is an update to the existing QDIM command. The only change is that dimensions are now associative.
8. How does this extension work on the
industry-specific, AutoCAD-based products?
The Associative QDIM extension can be installed on any AutoCAD platform-based product. In most cases, however, these products use their own, industry-specific, dimensioning systems (machine drawings are dimensioned very differently from architectural drawings, for instance). QDIM (and therefore the Associative QDIM Extension) acts independently of these dimensioning systems and only works on basic AutoCAD objects.
9. In cases where there is more than one
possible association point (for example, intersection vs. end point),
how does the dimension decide which point to associate to?
You can determine the association preference. The default setting is an end-point preference for a line and the center point for a circle or arc.
10. Does this extension work between model
space and paper space?
No. The Associative QDIM Extension does not support transspatial association. Model space dimensions generated by QDIM associate to model space geometry, and paper space dimensions generated by QDIM associate to paper space geometry. |
