2. Tools

2.1 Will the tool palettes I created in AutoCAD 2004 still work with the Tool Palettes Extension?
Yes. The previous tool palette functionality still exists, but you can now add more types of tools.

2.2 What kind of content can I include on a tool palette?
AutoCAD 2004 software enables you to include frequently used block and hatch content on your tool palettes. With the Tool Palettes Extension, you can also include external references, gradient fills, and images.

2.3 How can I add content tools to my tool palettes?
You can create block and image tools by dragging DWG or raster files from Microsoft® Windows® Explorer. You can also create block, xref, hatch, and image tools using the AutoCAD® DesignCenter? feature. You can create all these types of content tools, as well as gradient tools, by simply dragging geometry from your current drawing. When you drag geometry from the current drawing, object properties such as layer, scale, and rotation are automatically applied to the new tool.

2.4 Can I access commands and LISP routines from tool palettes?
Yes. You can assign a tool palette tool to do anything that a toolbar button or menu can do.

2.5 Can I create command tools by using existing geometry as an example?
Yes. If you drag geometry, such as a line, from your current drawing onto the tool palette, the software automatically creates a command tool with general properties corresponding to the original geometry. The ability to create command tools by example applies to all geometry except blocks, hatches, xrefs, gradients, or images, which automatically create content tools.

2.6 Can I apply my custom toolbar buttons to tool palettes?
Yes. With the Customize dialog box open, you can drag your custom toolbar buttons onto a tool palette. All information from the button, including the macro string and image, is automatically associated with the new command tool.

2.7 Can I create groups of tool palettes?
Yes. You can organize your tool palettes into logical groups. You can have any number of tool palette groups, and each tool palette group can have any number of tool palettes. You can easily switch between tool palette groups, but only one group can be active at a time.

2.8 Does this extension include any enhancements in addition to tool palette functionality?
Yes. The Tool Palettes Extension also contains updated fonts. The font updates include the addition of common engineering symbols as well as enhanced support for Japanese characters.
