1.Who will benefit from this extension?

The Reference Manager Extension is useful to anyone who has to manage large numbers of AutoCAD® platform-based drawing files (DWG) in an environment where external references (xrefs) are used. CAD managers in particular will benefit from the ability to report on network-wide reference dependencies from a central location using the Reference Manager Extension.

2. Does this extension work with industry-specific AutoCAD 2002-based products?

Yes. Although the Reference Manager Extension runs as a stand-alone application, it does require that one of the following AutoCAD platform-based products be installed on the computer:

  • AutoCAD® Mechanical 6
  • Autodesk® Architectural Desktop 3.3
  • Autodesk® Building Electrical
  • Autodesk® Building Mechanical

Yes. Profiles can be used to set search paths, which tell AutoCAD software where to look for external references when their locations are not explicitly defined. You also have the option to instruct the Reference Manager to search for references based on the locations defined in a profile.

9. What AutoCAD versions of DWG files will this extension search for and edit?

The Reference Manager Extension will report on all DWG files it locates, regardless of product version. However, when the Reference Manager Extension edits a file to reset a path, the file is automatically saved in the file format common to AutoCAD® 2000, AutoCAD® 2000i, and AutoCAD® 2002.

10. Does the Reference Manager Extension support nested xref files?

Yes. You have the option to set Reference Manager Extension to search for and report on nested xrefs.
