Questions and Answers

1. Who needs this extension?

If you are a member of a design or project team, your project¡¦s success depends on having the capacity to distribute accurate information over the Internet. The Electronic Plotting Extension facilitates this exchange of information in an accurate and timely manner. The Electronic Plotting Extension, an Internet-based application offering the DWF? data exchange format, builds more efficiency into the design process.

This extension enhances the ePlot functionality in AutoCAD® 2002 software (and products based on it) to include font embedding inside the DWF file as well as thumbnail previews. DWF now also offers true WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get). When you ePlot a DWF file, that file contains proper pen information, shaded screen values, paper size, margins, scaling, thumbnails, and other information to enable you to send these files to your customers or service bureaus with the confidence that they will look when printed exactly as you intended.

With Autodesk® tools like Volo™ View you can send, view, manage, and print ePlots anytime, anywhere.

2. What is an ePlot?

ePlot is a plot-ready, large-format document, analogous to a PDF in document publishing. Essentially, ePlot provides a mechanism by which design information can be exchanged in a lightweight, web-friendly, portable, secure, and precise format. This concept, introduced with AutoCAD 2000, establishes a standard in the design and engineering markets.

The Electronic Plotting Extension provides the control, precision, and functionality you need to plot and view high-fidelity DWF? (Design Web Format?) files. ePlot and DWF enable you to securely share your AutoCAD drawings with anyone for viewing, printing, review, and markup. With ePlot, you have the accuracy of plotting to paper and a means to distribute your designs electronically¡Xavoiding the costs involved with distributing hard-copy output while maintaining fidelity and security.
